Sixty Hereford (H) and Braford (B: 3/8 Zebu and 5/8 H) steers were finished on: D1) rangeland plus corn grain (1% of live weight) (H n= 15, B n= 15); and D2) high quality pasture (H n= 15, B n= 15) to study the effect of diet, temperament and lairage time on carcass and meat quality. Steers were slaughtered the same day in two groups, spending 15 and 3 h in pens, respectively (50% from D1, 50% from D2 in each group). Animals from D1 had better carcass performance without effect of the diet on meat quality. Regardless of breed, calmer steers showed higher average daily gain and lower shear force values. Carcasses from animals in the long lairage group had a better rate of pH decline and more tender meat, suggesting that more than 3 h preslaughter time should be necessary to rest and recover, mainly depending on lairage conditions. |

El Gorgojo Acuático, se presenta en nuestro País principalmente como Oryzophagus oryzae (Costa Lima, 1936), según relevamientos de campo realizado por la Lic. Leticia Bao, en las zonas arroceras del este, centro y norte del País. Este insecto ha sido mencionado como una de las principales plagas del Arroz regado en Brasil.
Nuestros productores de arroz, principalmente los del norte, han puesto su inquietud sobre el tema, manifestando que esta plaga está causando daños importantes en algunos cultivos, así lo han manifestado en los grupos de trabajo.
Por parte de INIA Tacuarembó, nos hemos planteado realizar trabajos parcelarios en el campo experimental de Paso Farias, Artigas, donde se profundizará sobre los siguientes temas: h) Determinar la incidencia de daños de larvas del Gorgojo Acuático del arroz, sobre distintos cultivares de arroz.
i) Determinar la incidencia de fertilizaciones nitrogenadas en distintos momentos fenológicos del cultivo, sobre la posible recuperación del daño de larvas del Gorgojo Acuático del arroz, tres cultivares de arroz j) Determinar la incidencia de manejos de riego sobre el ?Gorgojo Acuático del arroz? en el cultivar El Paso 144. |
